Overview

The Benefits Specialist will be primarily responsible for administering all employee benefits and all employee leave/ADA requests. This will include understanding and answering questions regarding policies/procedures, filing and approving the appropriate paperwork, and communicating with employees regarding outcomes or other questions they may have. The Benefits Specialist will play a key role during the open enrollment period and has a significant responsibility for the entering and maintaining the accuracy of employee benefit records into both electronic systems and paper-based files.

Job Details

Pay: $55,000.00 Per Year
Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision & 401K
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

Responsibilities

  • Administers all benefits including medical, dental, vision, short and long term disability, life insurance, and any other employee benefits and perks.
  • Research and respond to employee questions regarding all aspects of employee benefits and act as a liaison between employees and insurance carriers/broker to ensure timely resolution of any issues.
  • Educate new and existing employees on benefit plan options
  • Responsible for input and maintenance of employee benefits data in human resources information system (HRIS) databases and in vendor websites, including processing benefit enrollments, changes and terminations.
  • Work closely with payroll to ensure accuracy of data and benefits deductions.
  • Oversee and administer the STD/FMLA and other types of leaves of absence.
  • Administer annual Open Enrollment.
  • Work with outside auditors to conduct yearly audits of retirement 401(k) plans.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of Form 5500s for all of our employee health, welfare and retirement plans.
  • Responsible for the coordination of payment for benefits billings, including reconciling amounts, running standard reports and obtaining required approvals.
  • Support decision-making by analyzing benefit options. Evaluate and modify benefits policies to ensure that programs are market competitive and in compliance with legal requirements; keep abreast of regulatory changes and update plans and procedures as needed.
  • Provide analysis and generate reports in support of employee benefits programs. Ensure our plans and programs are in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations, including ERISA.
  • Maintain employee benefit files.
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for benefit processes.
  • Manage and improve upon established year-round wellness program. Lead all initiatives designed to encourage wellness in our employee population.

Education and Experience:

  • At least 3+ years of benefits administration and HRIS experience required
  • Bachelor's degree. Candidate may substitute a High School Diploma and a minimum of eight (8) years' experience as a Benefits Specialist
  • Demonstrated knowledge of benefits-specific and leave-specific HR laws and regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality with sensitive employee information
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and v-lookups
  • General understanding of payroll processes and benefit deduction set-up
  • Flexible, ability to execute well in a fast-paced, rapidly growing organization
  • Great attention to detail to ensure highest level of quality/rigor in reports & data analysis
  • Proactive, organized, detail oriented, self-starter and quality driven

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
